Enter each course's grade and credit and the GPA calculator works out your overall grade point average; when shopping, the discount calculator turns a list price and discount rate straight into the final amount you'll pay.
Leaving a tip at a restaurant is simpler with the tip calculator, which splits the total and headcount into a per-person amount, and the electricity bill calculator reflects Korea's steep tiered residential pricing to estimate this month's bill.
The electricity estimate doesn't account for seasonal discounts or welfare reductions, so if it differs from your real bill, check the exact amount with KEPCO customer service.
Grade point scales differ between institutions. Some use a 4.5 maximum and others 4.3, so the same letter grade converts differently. Overseas universities and employers often ask for a 4.0-scale figure, and because conversion methods vary by institution, a self-calculated value can conflict with theirs.
Some courses count toward the average and some do not. Pass/fail courses, earlier grades from retaken courses and credits from exchange periods are handled according to each school's rules, so scholarship and graduation requirements should be checked against the official calculation.
Electricity is billed on a progressive scale where the unit price rises with consumption. Crossing a band applies the higher rate only to the excess, but summer bands are adjusted, so the same usage costs differently by month — with climate and fuel adjustments, VAT and the power industry fund added on top.
An appliance's rated power differs from what it actually draws. Air conditioners consume less once the set temperature is reached, and refrigerators respond to how often the door opens. Standby power accumulates too, so unplugging idle devices alone makes a difference.
Stacked discounts depend on order. Thirty percent off followed by ten percent is not forty percent but thirty-seven, because the second applies to the already-reduced amount — which is why combined coupon and card discounts come out smaller than expected.
Separating list price, selling price and post-discount price shows what was actually saved. Where an inflated original price carries a large percentage, only the final amount tells, and comparing the same item across sellers is more reliable than comparing discount rates.
Tipping conventions and their basis differ by country: some apply the rate before tax and some after, and where a service charge already appears on the bill no further tip is needed. Splitting between several people is cleaner once it is agreed whether the total including tip is divided or each share follows what was ordered.
Most academic and household calculations follow a rule or convention already set. The result here applies that basis, so where an institution or counterparty uses a different one, theirs governs.
When totalling several items, the rounding point should be consistent. Rounding each line before summing differs from rounding the total once, and the gap grows with the amounts involved.
For calculations divided into bands, such as charges or grades, the treatment at the boundary matters — whether the threshold itself falls in the lower or upper band shifts the result by a step.
The figures here are estimates for reference. Where they differ from an official bill or transcript, the issuing body's calculation governs.
Progressive bands feel like a steep jump when usage barely crosses a threshold, but the higher rate applies only to the excess. Near a boundary, though, trimming a few days of use changes the bill noticeably, so meter dates and usage trends are worth watching together.
Splitting costs between several people starts with choosing equal or proportional division. Equal is simpler and proportional matches actual consumption, but where shared items are mixed in, separating those and dividing them equally reduces disagreement.
