For reference only: syllable-by-syllable standard spelling; sound changes are not applied. Passport names may differ from your registered spelling.
What is this converter?

The Korean romanization converter transliterates Korean names, words and addresses into Roman letters following the Revised Romanization of Korean (2000). It is handy for passport, business card and overseas document spellings. Everything runs in your browser, so nothing you type is sent to a server.

How it works

Each Korean syllable is split into initial, medial and final jamo, then joined using the romanization mapping table.

syllable = initial + medial + final

e.g. 서울 → seoul, 홍길동 → honggildong. Non-Korean characters (letters, digits, spaces, punctuation) pass through unchanged. The Capitalize each word option uppercases the first Roman letter of each space-separated word.

Passport name notes
  • If you already have a registered passport spelling, keep it.
  • Family members are encouraged to keep the same surname spelling.
  • This result is for reference only; follow the passport authority's guidance.
What is the romanization standard?
The Revised Romanization of Korean (2000) by the National Institute of Korean Language is the standard way to write Hangul in Latin letters. This tool splits each syllable into initial, medial and final jamo and applies that standard.
Can I use this for my passport name?
Passport and official English names may follow a spelling you already registered, which can differ from the standard. This result is for reference; check with the passport authority for matters like unifying a family surname.
Are sound changes applied?
This tool uses simple syllable-level mapping and does not apply sound changes such as consonant assimilation or palatalization, so a pronunciation-based spelling may differ.
How are letters, digits and symbols handled?
Non-Korean characters (letters, digits, spaces, punctuation) are passed through unchanged. If your text mixes Korean with other characters, only the Korean part is romanized.
How do I copy the result?
Select the result text by dragging or long-pressing, then copy (Ctrl+C or long-press to copy). Input is converted in real time, so the result updates without a separate button.
