For each paragraph, add one indentation cell to its character count (Unicode code points, including spaces), round up to 20-cell lines, then round up to 10-line sheets. An empty paragraph takes one line. Speaking uses 250, 300, or 350 non-whitespace characters per minute; reading uses 500. Times are estimates rounded up to seconds. Empty input gives zero.

What is the character counter?

Shows the character count (with and without spaces), word count, line count, and byte count of your text in real time — handy for length limits on essays, reports, blog posts and social media.

How to use it

Paste or type text into the box above and every stat updates automatically. No button to press, and your text stays in your browser — nothing is sent to any server.

What is counted?
  • With spaces: total characters including spaces, line breaks and tabs.
  • Without spaces: characters after removing all whitespace.
  • Words: chunks separated by whitespace.
  • Lines: number of lines split by line breaks.
  • Bytes: 2 bytes for CJK characters, 1 byte for ASCII (EUC-KR style).
What's the difference between with and without spaces?
"With spaces" counts every character including spaces, line breaks and tabs; "without spaces" removes all whitespace. Length limits differ by service, so check both values.
How are essay character limits counted?
It varies by site — most use the with-spaces count, but some limit by without-spaces or by bytes (2 bytes per Korean character, 1 for ASCII). Check the input field's guidance and compare all values here.
How is the byte count calculated?
Bytes here count CJK characters as 2 and ASCII as 1 (EUC-KR style), the common basis on Korean job sites. Under UTF-8, Korean characters are 3 bytes, so values can differ by system.
How are words counted?
A word is a run of non-whitespace characters separated by spaces or line breaks, the same basis as English word counts.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. Everything runs in your browser; your text is never uploaded or stored, so you can safely paste sensitive documents.
