Health & Life Guide

Enter just your height and weight to see BMI, ideal weight and BMR at once; if you're trying to conceive, the due-date calculator uses your last period, and the ovulation calculator separately estimates your fertile window.

The BAC calculator estimates blood alcohol content from the type and amount of alcohol and your body weight, but individual metabolism varies enough that it should never be used to decide whether it's safe to drive. The smoking cost calculator multiplies daily cigarette use by price to show annual and lifetime spending, often used as motivation to quit.

The pet age calculator converts a dog or cat's age into human years, and the life expectancy calculator estimates expected lifespan from lifestyle and statistics. Every health metric here is a reference estimate, not a medical diagnosis — see a doctor if something feels off.

Health indicators mislead when read alone. Body mass index divides weight by height squared and so cannot separate muscle from fat or say where fat sits — waist measurement or body composition alongside blood pressure, glucose and lipids gets closer to the real picture.

Korean and international thresholds diverge for some measures. Obesity is the clearest case: evidence that East Asian populations face higher metabolic risk at the same index has set domestic thresholds lower, so results from overseas calculators can conflict with domestic clinical practice.

Basal metabolic rate is the energy used at complete rest, multiplied by an activity factor to reach daily need. Formulas disagree and individual muscle mass and metabolism shift the result, so tracking weight over several weeks calibrates better than choosing between equations.

Pregnancy calculations start from the first day of the last period, with the due date set 280 days later — though births distribute across several weeks either side. Ovulation estimates likewise assume a regular cycle and vary as the cycle does.

Blood alcohol estimates come from the amount drunk, body weight and elapsed time. Elimination rates differ several-fold between people and absorption shifts with food, so a result below the limit is no basis for driving — roadside testing measures an actual value, not an estimate.

The cost of smoking and drinking is not only what is spent. Most of a pack's price is tax and levies, and treatment costs and lost income arrive later. Cessation treatment is supported by health insurance and public health centre clinics run free of charge.

Converting a pet's age by multiplying by seven does not match how ageing runs: maturity comes fast in the first two years and slows afterwards, and larger dogs enter old age sooner. The converted figure is best used to judge when check-ups should become more frequent.

These calculations are for reference and do not replace diagnosis or treatment. Where a value falls outside the normal range or unusual symptoms persist, a consultation is safer than acting on the result.

Life expectancy from a life table is for a child born that year, which differs from the remaining years expected at a given age. At older ages the figure carries the condition of having survived that far, so projected age at death runs above life expectancy at birth.

Healthy life expectancy counts years lived without disease or disability. When total life expectancy rises without it, only the time spent unwell grows — which is why retirement planning separates medical and care costs.
