Korean Initial Consonant Extractor (Jamo Split & Join)

Extract initial consonants from Korean text, split syllables into jamo, or join jamo back into syllables.

Three modes

Initials turns 안녕 into ㅇㄴ; Split turns 닭 into ㄷㅏㄺ. Join composes compatibility jamo in two-set keyboard input order.

Expansion and preservation

In Split mode, expansion changes ㄺ to ㄹㄱ and ㅘ to ㅗㅏ. Turn off preservation to remove Latin letters, numbers, spaces, and punctuation. Processing stays in your browser.

What if a vowel follows a compound final?
ㄷㅏㄹㄱ becomes 닭, while ㄷㅏㄹㄱㅏ becomes 달가. Only the second consonant moves to the next syllable.
Which jamo can be joined?
Join uses compatibility jamo such as ㄱ and ㅏ. Uncombinable jamo and existing syllables pass through. Without separators, ambiguous jamo sequences may regroup differently from the original syllables.
How do I use it to make an initial-consonant quiz?
Type the answer word or sentence and stay in Initials mode — only the initial consonants remain. Spaces and punctuation are kept, so you can copy the result straight into your quiz.
What happens to English letters and numbers?
With the keep non-Korean option on, letters, numbers and symbols stay as they are; turn it off to drop them. The option applies to all three modes: Initials, Split and Join.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. Splitting and joining are computed only inside this browser using Hangul Unicode rules.
