What is the Background Remover & Changer?

It removes a photo background with a pixel algorithm that compares colors (auto-clear, magic wand and brush), swaps in transparency, a solid color, another photo or a blurred copy, and saves as PNG, JPG or WebP. It does not use AI to recognize the subject, and everything runs inside your browser.

How to use
  1. Add a photo by choosing a file, dropping it, or pasting with Ctrl+V.
  2. Press Remove background to clear the area matching the edge color. A higher tolerance clears more.
  3. Refine what is left with the magic wand (areas similar to the clicked color) and the brush (eraser or restore), and tidy the outline with Shrink and Feather.
  4. Choose None, Color, Image or Blur under Background, press Save, pick a format (PNG, JPG or WebP) and download.

Scroll to zoom, hold Space and drag to pan, and press Ctrl+Z to undo (up to 20 steps).

What works and what does not
It works best on plain, single-color backgrounds. Hair, fur, transparent objects and busy backgrounds will not clear cleanly in one step, so refine them with the magic wand and brush. Photos larger than 4000px on the long side are resized to 4000px.
Privacy and safety

From opening to saving, everything happens inside your browser, and your photo is never uploaded or stored. To crop to a standard ID size, continue with the ID & Passport Photo Maker.

Which photos work best?
Photos with a background close to a single color and a clear color difference from the subject work best, such as a portrait against a white wall or a product on a plain cloth. This tool does not use AI to recognize the subject; it only compares colors, so when the background and subject look alike you will need to refine the result with the magic wand and brush.
What about hair or busy backgrounds?
First use "Remove background" to clear the large areas, then refine the rest with the magic wand (click a similar-color area) and the brush (eraser or restore). For fine parts such as hair tips, shrink the brush and zoom in. The Feather slider softens the edge, and Ctrl+Z undoes mistakes.
Can I change an ID photo background color?
Yes. After removing the background, pick a solid color under Background. Presets include white, light gray, ID-photo blue and black, and you can choose any color. If the place you submit to sets background colors or sizes, as with passport photos, check its guidelines first. To crop to a standard size, continue with the ID & Passport Photo Maker.
How do I save with a transparent background?
Keep Background set to None and choose PNG or WebP as the file format. JPG cannot store transparency, so erased areas are saved on a white background. The file is named originalname_nobg, at the original resolution (or at 4000px on the long side if the photo was larger).
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. Opening, erasing, replacing the background and saving all happen inside your browser, and files are never uploaded or stored. No external AI service is used.
