What is the Excel converter?

This tool opens a real Excel file (.xlsx / .xls) and turns it into CSV or JSON, or builds an .xlsx file from CSV or JSON data. Unlike converters that only reshape pasted tables, it reads and writes the workbook itself, and lets you pick one sheet out of a multi-sheet workbook.

Conversion uses SheetJS Community Edition (Apache-2.0), served from this site and loaded only when you first need it, so the page itself stays light and nothing is requested from outside servers.

How to use

Under From Excel, choose a file, pick the sheet and output format (CSV or JSON), then press Convert. CSV is saved with a UTF-8 BOM so Korean text stays intact when reopened in Excel; JSON is an array of objects keyed by the first row.

Under To Excel, choose a CSV/JSON file or paste the content and the format is detected automatically. Check the preview, press Convert, and download the .xlsx file.

Privacy and safety

Reading, converting, previewing and downloading all happen inside your browser; files are never uploaded or stored. That makes it safe for internal documents and customer lists you would rather not send to a website.

Note: Password-protected workbooks and macro files (.xlsm) are not supported. Formulas are converted to their calculated values, and formatting, charts and images are not carried over.
Will Korean text break when I turn an Excel file into CSV?
No. CSV files are saved with a UTF-8 BOM, so Korean text stays intact when reopened in Excel. Without a BOM, Excel on Korean Windows often misreads UTF-8 CSV as EUC-KR.
How do I convert a workbook with several sheets?
After you choose a file, a sheet list appears. Pick a sheet and the preview updates; only that one sheet is saved as CSV or JSON. To convert another sheet, switch sheets and convert again.
Can a CSV saved in EUC-KR become an Excel file?
Yes. The CSV is first read as UTF-8, and if it contains bytes that cannot be decoded it is read again as EUC-KR automatically. Pasted text is already decoded, so encoding does not matter there.
What shape must JSON have to become a spreadsheet?
An array of objects ([{"name":"Kim"}, …]) is the usual case, and the keys become the header row. An array of arrays ([["name","amount"],["Kim",1000]]) is placed row by row, and nested objects are stored as a JSON string in one cell.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Reading, converting, previewing and downloading all happen inside your browser, and nothing is uploaded or stored. The conversion library (SheetJS, Apache-2.0) is a file served by this site itself.
