What is this?

The Countdown tool shows the time remaining until a specific date and time — New Year's, an exam day, an anniversary, a trip — in days, hours, minutes, and seconds, updated in real time. If the target has already passed, it shows how much time has elapsed since then.

Note: For a short countdown in minutes/seconds or a stopwatch, use Timer & Stopwatch instead. This tool is built for long-range countdowns to a specific future date.
How to use it

Enter an optional title, tap a preset (New Year / Midnight / +1 week) or pick a date and time yourself, then press Set to start the countdown immediately. Your target and title are saved automatically and restored after a refresh.

Press Copy link to copy a shareable URL containing the target date/time and title. Anyone who opens that link sees the same countdown.

Real-world uses

Count down to New Year's, an exam day, a wedding or birthday, an anniversary, a trip departure, or a project deadline — useful whenever you want to track time remaining until a specific future moment.

What's the difference between Countdown and Timer/Stopwatch?
Timer & Stopwatch (/misc/timer/) is built for short minute/second countdowns or measuring elapsed time, while this tool is for long-range countdowns to a specific future date and time — New Year's, an exam day, an anniversary — updated in real time.
Does my target date survive a page refresh?
Yes. The target date/time and title are saved both to your browser's local storage and to the page URL's query string, so refreshing the page or revisiting a saved link restores the same countdown.
Can I share the countdown with someone else?
Yes. After setting a target, press "Copy link" to copy a URL containing the target date/time and title to your clipboard. Anyone who opens that link sees the same countdown automatically.
What happens if the target date has already passed?
Once the target time passes, the countdown automatically switches to an "elapsed" display, continuing to show how much time (days, hours, minutes, seconds) has passed since the target.
