GPA Scale Converter

Convert GPAs between 4.5, 4.3 and 4.0 scales and a 100-point score.

점

Include decimals, e.g. 3.8

Ratio = GPA÷scale×100 · 4.5 school = GPA×10+55 · 4.3 school = GPA×10+57. Follow the method your recipient specifies.

100-point score

84.44점

On a 4.5 scale (ratio)3.80
On a 4.3 scale (ratio)3.63
On a 4.0 scale (ratio)3.38

Formulas differ by school

There is no single national standard for GPA conversion. Graduate schools, scholarship foundations and employers set their own formulas or tables, and the same GPA can score differently. This tool only offers methods that can be verified from public sources, for reference.

Three conversion methods
  • Simple ratio — GPA ÷ scale × target (scale or 100). Used for all scale-to-scale conversion and as the default 100-point method. GPA converter tools commonly present it as a rough reference (e.g. Incruit GPA converter).
  • 4.5-scale school formula: GPA × 10 + 55 — Inha University announced that from June 1, 2023 it replaced the old 60+[(average GPA−1)×40/3.5] with this formula (Inha academic affairs notice), and Sejong University lists the same formula in its percentage conversion standard (Sejong percentage conversion). On a 4.5 scale, 4.5 equals 100 points.
  • 4.3-scale school formula: GPA × 10 + 57 — KAIST switched from 60+{(GPA−0.7)/(4.3−0.7)}×40 to this formula from October 30, 2023, which the article says matches the method Seoul National and Yonsei already use (The KAIST Times). On a 4.3 scale, 4.3 equals 100 points.

The two school formulas apply only to a GPA on that scale. For any other scale, no result is shown.

Example — 3.8 on a 4.5 scale
  • Ratio to a 4.3 scale: 3.8 ÷ 4.5 × 4.3 ≈ 3.63
  • 100 points, simple ratio: 3.8 ÷ 4.5 × 100 ≈ 84.44
  • 100 points, 4.5-scale school formula: 3.8 × 10 + 55 = 93.00

The same 3.8 lands around 84 or 93 depending on the method.

Limits of scale conversion

Converting between scales by ratio is an approximation that skips the grade table. In school grade tables, a B+ is 3.5 on a 4.5 scale but 3.3 on a 4.3 scale, so steps differ from the ratio (see the 4.3 table at Seoul National University grading). For official submissions, use the conversion certificate your school issues.

How do I convert a 4.5-scale GPA to a 4.3 scale?
The simplest way is GPA ÷ 4.5 × 4.3. For example 3.8 becomes about 3.63. Grade steps differ between scales, so the result can differ slightly from a value based on a school transcript.
Is there one official 100-point formula?
No. It differs by school and organization. Inha and Sejong publish GPA×10+55 for a 4.5 scale, KAIST publishes GPA×10+57 for a 4.3 scale, and the simple ratio (GPA÷scale×100) is widely used as a rough reference. Follow the method your recipient specifies.
Why does a school formula show "—"?
The school formulas were made for GPAs on that scale only: the 4.5 formula for a 4.5 scale and the 4.3 formula for a 4.3 scale. For a different scale the result is deliberately not shown instead of mixing them.
Which value should I put on a grad school or job application?
First check the scale and conversion standard your recipient requires. If none is specified, writing your original GPA together with its scale is the safe choice. The result here is for reference and is not an official conversion.
Can a 4.0-scale GPA be converted?
Yes. It is converted by ratio to 4.5, 4.3 and 100 points. The verified school 100-point formulas exist only for 4.5 and 4.3 scales, so a 4.0 scale uses the simple ratio only.
